One Nation Under A Groove w/ SDDP

This month’s edition of ‘One Nation Under A Groove’ features a guest mix from SDDP (@sddp_deej )
Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, SDDP’s first exposure to electronic dance music was his older brother showing him stuff like the Prodigy, Daft Punk, Granite by Pendulum in middle school. He didn’t get really into dance music until high school around ‘15/‘16, discovering Theo Parrish, Moodymann, some early UK rave and Jungle like A Guy Called Gerald, 4 Hero, LTJ Bukem & Acen. He started collecting records around that time too, which led to trying to make sounds in college akin to the LA beat scene, a la Flying Lotus & Shlohmo.
In 2016, SDDP started DJing. From 2017-2019, he was part of the blog record label Cosmic Incantations and worked with JPB and JP Source to release 3 records while also writing / interviewing musicians, artists & DJs. He cut his teeth DJing at a local volunteer radio station in Louisville, WXOX 97.1 ArtxFM, hosting a show called Tryna Move Radio from 2018-2019.
SDDP has DJed in Louisville, Richmond, VA and Brooklyn. His guest mixes have appeared on the Lot Radio, 8ball radio, Newtown Radio, WKDU Philadelphia 91.7 FM, IDEAL Radio / subfm, WLXU Lexington 93.9 FM
SDDP’s guest mix for ‘One Nation Under A Groove’ was heavily inspired by the new book Tough Breaks: The Story of Baltimore Club Music by Al Shipley. It highlights early-mid 90s club music along with contemporaries and friends such as Fairway, DANNN and Relaxxx. It ends off nice & smooth with some good ol’ fashion R&B.
