Kicking the new year into gear with a guest mix from a good friend, gifted selector, and spice connoisseur, L.A.’s @michael.melange . Michael joins the Particle airwaves this Wednesday Jan 7, starting at 6p PT, with a live mix from our Eagle Rock bungalow. Dive into the Q&A chat to get to know Michael, who’s got you covered on digging recs, venue lore and upcoming events! Keep it locked w/ us 1/7/26 @vibraryofcongress on @particlefm ! #internetradio #particlefm #losangeles Name: Michael Lee Alias: Michael Mélange 📍: Los Angeles Favorite show played: The inaugural FREAKS ONLY at @clubteegee . It’s a night I started with my buddy, @travisholcombe , and it felt like the beginning of something that could have legs for a good while. I wanted to play big that night and it was nice to see how people reacted to it. Venue: I enjoy going to @teragramla . It looks, feels and sounds great inside plus the programming is excellent — I have many fond Halloween memories with Thee Oh Sees there! Michael Swier runs the venue and he’s also responsible for starting New York based venues with his wife, Margaret, like the Bowery Ballroom, Mercury Lounge, Terminal 5 and the Music Hall of Williamsburg. They both wanted to retire in California and set up their first venue outside of New York but Margaret passed away in 2009 due to cancer however, Swier still ventured out west and made The Teragram in her honor which is her name backwards. Favorite record store: @rooky_ricardos_records ! Dick Vivian, the proprietor of the shop, is a Bay Area icon and it’s an absolute treat to chat with him as he has deep knowledge of Soul and R&B vocalists, musicians and lore. We both love emotive female singers like Jackie Shane and Barbara Lynn and every time I visit his shop, I walk out with a stack of 45s he’s hand selected based on the artists we were nerding out about. You can tell he truly enjoys turning you on to something he knows you’re going to dig — we all love that feeling of hearing an amazing tune for the first time and he really loves to provide that experience for you when you’re in his shop.
